Striking a balance means achieving a state in which different things occur in equal or
proportionate importance. It can be anything in life. Here the spotlight is on students striking
a balance between curricular and co-curricular activities.
Senior school is a time of significant development and transformation. Students nowadays face
fresh challenges in balancing their academic and social lives. To overcome these and to succeed
in school as well as beyond, it is critical to strike a balance between curricular and co-curricular activities, while at school.
If complete focus is given only on academics, children who are good at art forms like painting,
dancing, singing, sports etc. will fail to realize their talents. This is where striking a balance
between these two becomes important.
Balancing academic and extracurricular activities can be quite challenging, but it is possible.
Remember, where there is a will, there is a way! So, discover your ideal equilibrium with these
guidelines.
Your schoolwork should always come first, which means setting aside enough time each day
to do daily lessons and completion of assignments. Make sure to choose extracurricular
activities that you are passionate about and that which will help you develop your skills and
interests. Take on only what you will be able to accomplish, as you won’t be able to do justice
to anything if you take on too much! Manage your time effectively and stay organized by using
a planner to track your schoolwork, activities and other commitments. Take breaks, from
studying and activities to be able to stay alert and focused. Be realistic about your schedules
and commitments. Try not to attempt too much at once! Don’t hesitate to say “No”, if you feel
that you don’t have the time for what you are being called for, or if they aren’t a good fit for
you. Decide which activities are more important to you and dedicate maximum time and
attention to those. If you have difficulty balancing your studies and activities, talk to your
Parents, Teachers or School Counselors who can help you develop a plan that will work for
you. And finally, take care of yourself. Make sure, in between all these, you get enough sleep,
eat healthy foods and exercise regularly. Your health matters a lot in helping you stay healthy
and focused in achieving all that you wish to achieve.
