Inclusion & EAL

Ours is an inclusive education, where all children at school are given a fair chance to learn and develop the skills they need to thrive, allowing them to learn and grow side by side, truly in sync with our tagline, ‘Learn. Share. Grow.’ The inclusion of pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL), in our school is becoming increasingly important in the effort to ‘close the gap’ of academic achievement. The term EAL is often applied to children who are thought of as ‘New’ to English Language. We have several strategies in place to ensure that EAL pupils gain confidence at the start of school itself. One of these strategies of the ‘Buddy System’ enables these pupils to settle down in school with ease. We therefore consider it crucial and our strategies for learning have been aligned in such a way that ALL pupils regardless of their first language have access to the same education. At our school, every child matters and so is every child at the heart of all teaching and learning processes.
